Andrew L. Bertrand

Firm principal Andrew Bertrand founded the Law Office of Andrew L. Bertrand, PC in 1999 with the goal of providing knowledgeable, compassionate criminal defense representation to clients in Fort Collins and the surrounding cities in northern Colorado. Mr. Bertrand has extensive experience assisting clients charged with DUI (driving under the influence), DUR (driving under revocation), drug offenses, assault and harassment, and theft and fraud. He has also represented many Colorado college students in disciplinary hearings, always working to minimize the impact of arrest and criminal charges on his clients' lives and futures.

Mr. Bertrand began his career as a probation officer with the Drug Task Force in New York City and, later, in Golden and Canon City, Colorado. He also served two years on the Colorado Governors' DUI Task Force. After earning his Juris Doctor from the University of New Hampshire's Franklin Pierce Law Center, he was a district court prosecutor in New Hampshire before moving to Fort Collins. Since opening his own practice, Mr. Bertrand has earned the respect of his colleagues and peers. In 2005, he was the first criminal defense attorney to receive the Judge Conrad L. Ball Award, which recognizes significant contribution toward improving the quality of criminal justice in Larimer County, and was named Criminal Defense Attorney of the Year by the Consumer Business Review in 2004, 2005, and 2007.

In nominating Mr. Bertrand for the Judge Conrad L. Ball Award, the Colorado Public Defender's Office praised his "enthusiastic dedication in seeking justice and helping others." He "offers personal encouragement and assistance to clients, and [is] a man with a great sense of humor and spirit" (reported by the University of New Hampshire School of Law). The Coloradoan has noted his work more than once, including his representation of a Colorado State University student in a high profile case and his opinion regarding prearranged phone calls in criminal investigations.
